The First Step

So, you are on a quest to feel better, look better, sleep better, love better, and you are not sure where to start. You’ve tried everything or you may have tried nothing. You just know that you have to DO something!  There are so many diets, health books, exercise dvds, advice from friends, personal trainers and everyone else. Sometimes you feel like either SCREAMING and/or just laying down on the sofa with a pint of ice cream and cookies (or your favorite savory snack)…ugggghhhh!!!!  Or you might be a person who really just hasn’t given your body much thought. You’ve been too busy working your career, taking care of your family, and wading through all of the church services, community meetings, and whatever else you may going on in your life. All you know is that your body (on the inside) doesn’t feel the same, your energy level isn’t what it used to be and you see the inevitable (or so people say) signs of aging. One day you look in the mirror or walk up a flight of stairs and realize things just aren’t the same…So, what do you do, where do you start? What is your FIRST STEP?

I’m a book junkie. I love to read! I love all types of books and information. In my quest to lose weight, to find the latest secrets to longevity, and to figure this health thing out, I have read so many books, articles, websites, you name it. Honestly, it can get overwhelming, because everyone’s saying different things and everyone has a theory. How are you supposed to know which one will work best for you? Of course, you can try them all. I’ve tried plenty in my lifetime. I can honestly say that my greatest success with achieving my health goals has come when I wasn’t actually looking for it. And here’s the real secret…

My biggest success has come when I’ve been seeking the Lord, in general, and He lays a strategy on my heart. I can say with certainty that it was established based on biblical principles. I truly believe that the Bible has an answer for everything. I believe that you can gauge and guide every area of your life based on biblical principals, this includes our health and wellness. The Bible is spiritual, but it is also practical.

I also believe that because we have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us, we have access to all wisdom and truth – in every area of our life – including our health.

Proverbs 4:5-6 says,

Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you.

This is an awesome scripture about the power of WISDOM and her ability to keep us and preserve us if we attain her, dwell with her and love her.

Now I know that from a physical standpoint we all want to be kept and preserved (think anti-aging). Yes, I do believe the Lord desires us to live long and strong.

But I’m moving a little ahead of myself (more on this in a later post). I just want to implore you that the Holy Spirit leads us into all TRUTH and ultimately WISDOM! So seek Him, talk to Him and listen for His voice.

So, what I’m saying is that seeking the Lord and listening for His voice and being led by the Spirit is THE FIRST STEP to achieving a healthy, whole and joyous life! He will never steer you wrong. No one knows you or your body like the Lord. He will tell you what to eat, when to eat, what exercise schedule you need to be on and He will even lead you to resources to help you in your endeavors.

So, hopefully as this blog unfolds and grows, we will become a resource that will help you gain more wisdom and understanding on the spiritual, practical and just down right common sense things you can do live a life in which you are JOYOUSLY FIT!!!
